Chemistry, one of the most popular R&B/pop duo is back with a new album. With almost a 2 year absence since the release of the last album, how do they fare now?I have loved this band for quite some time now. They have really good voices and especially in the world of Jpop where much of the bands are manufactured, this is the real deal. They have lasted very long and every album they released have been successful so far. They are good in creating uplifting songs as well as the slower R&B tracks that are more emotional. Over the years they have managed to retain their unique characteristics, making it instantly recognizable when you listen to any of their released tracks.
So do I like their new album “regeneration”? I really like it. Considering they have been on a hiatus for 2 years, this album came as a surprise for me. I was browsing at HMV when I came across this album and soon realized that it was CHEMISTRY. I think the name, “regeneration” is a fitting one, because based on the songs in the album, they have taken on a different approach in their song writing. Its more uplifting, less love song type of lyrics and more about life in general. I think its a reflection on their own lives, growing up and seeking a new direction both in their own personal life as well as in their careers. And I feel that they have to evolve at some level to keep up to the times. They are adults now, no longer the burgeoning teen sensation era they used to enjoy back then. As such, their song writing has to mature and evolve too.
I particularly like the opening song for the album. It really sets the tone for the rest of the album. My impression when i listened to the first track was that it was time for them to officially declare that they have returned and returned as a different band. It’s like an opening theme to their arrival and it’s very uplifting.
They also contributed a song for the popular hit anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Brotherhood is the true retelling of the hit manga series Fullmetal Alchemist. It is one of the most popular manga series not only in Japan, but the world. Recently the manga creator has created a closure to the series, a proper ending after more than 10 years of publishing its story. And to coincide with the great timing, the anime series also managed to follow the manga accurately from start to finish, creating a series with a proper closure and at the same time, following faithfully to the original material for the first time.
So fans of CHEMISTRY, get this album now!
