I initially enjoyed reading the novel when I first started it. However, the plot got muddled a little bit in the final 1/3 of the book. The ending is somewhat long and convoluted, with a slightly disappointing conclusion. In the end, I feel less attached to the characters than I did at the beginning. For a plot that takes place several years and several different countries, it requires stamina to really finish this 700 page tome. Does it deserve the Pulitzer? Personally, I don’t think so. I find her writing tedious with long, lengthy sentences with no full stop in sight. It gets worse towards the end, as if the author forgets to take a breather while writing the book. It started out fine and pleasant in the beginning, but somehow, towards the end, it breaks apart.
