Donate to Wikipedia.org

Wikipedia needs 6 million to keep the community going in the next fiscal year . Do your part and go to wikipedia to donate. Any amount in any major currencies are accepted through pay pal or by any means you are comfortable with. I just donated SGD 2.00  and i already feel good about it.

I like how wikipedia.org puts the website in this way:

Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge.

— Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia

The empowerment we have given through the advent of the internet has given us the people of the world free access to the world’s knowledge in the palm of your hands, on your fingertips. Finding information and knowledge has never been so fast, so easy, so accessible today.

Ive used wikipedia on many occasions and it has definitely helped me in obtaining useful information and knowledge that has greatly benefited me. Now i feel that it my turn to play my part and contribute my tiny bit back to the community.

  1. Before you donate, ask yourself the following questions:

    (1) Is it true that Jimmy Wales is “The Founder” of Wikipedia? If so, then who is Larry Sanger, and what was his role in the “founding” process?

    (2) Is it true that Wikipedia operated successfully less than 4 years ago on a $350,000 budget? If so, what has changed that has mandated a 17x increase in anticipated need for revenues?

Most people who donate are not capable or willing to examine these questions.
