Japanese singer Utada Hikaru, diagnosed with acute tonsillitis, announced Tuesday the cancellation of her United States promotional tour that was supposed to begin next week.
According to Taiwan media reports, the Japanese-American who recently launched her album This is The One in the United States, initially planned to make her debut there with the nickname “Hikki”; she decided against it later because it sounded too much like “Hickie” (slang for love bites).
Utada had been in the States to promote her new album in March and was supposed to be there again for autograph sessions next week. However, according to a release on her official website, she had to cancel the tour after being diagnosed with a relapse of acute tonsillitis. Expected to make a full recovery, Utada is advised against using her vocal chords for two weeks and to stay indoors. The promotional tour is thus postponed till further notice.
