PC upgrade phase II

Tomorrow is a huge day for a lot of pc gamers around the world, especially those who are finally looking to upgrade their GPU to the latest NVIDIA RTX 3080.

Officially launching on September 17 all around the world, as someone who has been using the 1080ti for the past 3 years, I am very excited to finally be able to upgrade to the latest GPU and not have to break the bank. The 20 series GPU were crazy expensive when it was released and because of that I held off upgrading my GPU.

Now, with millions of people like me holding out on their upgrade, the 3080 seems like a natural upgrade progression, offering GPU at roughly the same price point as when the 1080ti came out, but almost doubling performance in some instances in certain gaming conditions.

I briefly watched a number of reviews on YouTube, and it seems that this latest GPU shines when gaming at 4K. No doubt, this card is a beast.

The problem is, there is so much pent up demand from so many who have yet to upgrade to the 20 series card when it was first announced, that getting the GPU on day one seems impossible. For me personally, I haven’t been able to reserve one from my usual PC DIY stores at Sim Lim, as no pre-orders will be accepted this time round.

At this point, I don’t really care what brand GPU I will be getting, but if supply wasn’t an issue and if I were given a choice to choose the brand I want on da one, I will definitely go for the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra graphics card.

The design for these cards from EVGA this time round seems more palatable and pleasant compared to their 20 series cards which was darn right ugly. It now looks compact, and sleek. Because of its size, I may not need to permanently remove one of my front case fans to accommodate the new GPU. I may need to for other brand’s, as they are showcasing, longer, thicker cards than previous generations, which is a little bit of a squeeze in my Meshify C case, unless I provide more room by removing one of the front case fans. However, with the EVGA, it should not pose any problem.

I am going to head down to Sim Lim and try my luck in securing one tomorrow morning. But I pretty certain that I will be going back home empty handed.
