Six years later and I heading to a different lab

I started out as a research officer at ASTAR in 2014. It was my first job after graduating from university. Fast forward six years today and I am still in the same job. I would never have imagined that I would stick to the same job, working alongside colleagues who made work life so much better for six whole years.

In a couple of months however, I will be heading to a different lab, led by a different PI. I am excited to be given the opportunity to do something different. But at the same time, I am quite hesitant. For one, I will terribly miss all my colleagues whom I have worked with all these years. They have become my friends and even family while in the lab.

I don’t know how the new PI works or what his working culture is like. But one thing I definitely know is that the people working under my new PI seems to be a fun bunch of people. I think I will settle quickly with them.

The next few months will be exciting for me. I don’t know what to expect, except that things are going to be very different when it comes to work.
