Transformers exceeded all expectations for me. Watched on Sunday last week, it could be the best summer films in 2007. After a somewhat lackluster opening summer movies like Spiderman 3, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Michael Bay has undoubtedly created his best movie yet.
Teaming up with Steven Spielberg, these two legendary Hollywood film makers, with the help of special effects giant, Industrial Light & Magic, they have once again, pushed the boundaries of CGIs and breathed new life to this quarter-century franchise.
The story follows Sam Witwicky, great great grandson of Captain Archibald Witwicky who made an accidental discovery of the Decepticon’s leader Megatron. Upon the discovery, his glasses were etched with the coordinates to the location of the Allspark. a cube of tremendous power. That glasses were now in the hands of Sam Witwicky who tried selling it on Ebay, which in turned signalled the Autobots and Decepticons to make their move. The decepticons and the Autobots were at war that lead the the destruction of their home planet, Cybetron. Dispersed throughout the universe of what remained of their race, a few were led toward Earth, where Allspark was located. Throughout the story, the Autobots such as Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Jazz and Ironhide tries desperately to protect Sam Witwicky from the Decepticons, while at the same time acquire the Allsparks before Megatron does and thus transforming earth to the hand of the Decepticons. Determined to protect Earth and prevent a repeat of their history, both sides, the Autobots and the Decepticons were embroiled in a furious battle throughout the movie.
First of all, I cannot imagine and or even explained the sheer complexity of some of the CGI infused scenes. As far as i know, the Industrial Light & Magic has done it again. Ive never seen a CG animated machine that is sooo complex yet looked natural and lifelike. Even more outstanding is the fluidity, versatility and bionic look to the Autobots and Decepticons that were created.
Yes it the movie was not all effects. The story is pretty above average and kinda solid for an action packed movie. Though im not a fan of the transfomers franchise, i cant really say how faithful the adaptation is in terms of the actual role and personality given to the Autobots and Decepticons. But as a general audience i can safely say that, on the technical side, the special effects team has never cut corners and have given their very best in making the Autobots and Decepticons as realistic as possible on the big screen.
I really hope that this movie would break some box-office records when the tallies are out, if not at least Michael Bay’s personal best earning in this latest movie.
For those who havent watched it, i suggest you watch it at Vivocity, in 2k Cinema. That would really rock you out of your seats with superb digital pictures and sounds that would really bring out the action in the movie.
