2007 Summer Blockbuster Movies

Summer Blockbuster Movies are coming! Heres a rundown of the list for the month of May

1. May 1st: Spiderman 3

Third movie in the Spiderman franchise, this is set to potentially break all records of the of the movie blockbusters. A great opening to the summer movies. The movie budget was set at officially US$258 million dollars, breaking record for the most expensive movie ever made in history. I wouldn’t be surprised, if it breaks its own records for first day sales, first week sales and overall gross earnings. After all, it earned almost US$115 million in the first opening weekend, making it the fastest earner of reaching the US$100 million milestone in just 3 days. But the record was quickly broken by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest with US$135 million. So expect some tough competition when the latest and final sequel to Pirates releases in the coming weeks after Spiderman 3.

2. May 11: 28 Weeks Later

This movie is a sequel to the zombie horror fest 28 Days Later. Personally, im not too eager to watch this movie. Having watch the previous installment, i found that the movie i just another ordinary zombie movie. Its scary and it has the atmosphere, but if this is another cash cow sequel, then ill give it a pass. Though the trailer looks cool by the way. Ill wait for the reviews to start trickling in.

3. May 18: Shrek the Third

Now this is the movie ive been waiting for. The previous 2 movies are a jewel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cast, really funny and they actually have a good story behind it, quite an amazing feat. Shrek 3 will be another major blockbuster, competing with Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3, both of them are third installments in their own respective franchise. To add to the competitive heat in luring moviegoers, each of the franchise mentioned have record breaking movies. Shrek beating Spiderman, Pirates beating Shrek. It never ends. Now is the time of judgment for these 3 titans who will clash in a 3 way battle this year. Definitely a must watch film.

4. May 25: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

When i watch the first movie, i was blown away. I didnt expect the movie to be that good. It became a sleeper hit for me and it definitely went beyond expectations in terms of gross earnings in the boxoffice. Second movie was great as well and broke a couple of records during the year of release. Being a 3 part series, the third installment will end everything and put the whole story to rest. Im pretty excited to see the conclusion and of course Chow Yun Fat portrayal as a chinese pirate, with his much anticipated line: “Welcome to Singapore” If this is a big hit (definitely it will) it will surely put Singapore on the world map. Who doesnt love Jack Sparrow anyway?
