Soul Searching

Enough of the bbq for now. Yesterday, i went out by myself for a little soul searching and also to get myself mentally prepared on what’s to come in the coming months. Next week onwards is a big thing for me and i do not want to screw it up.

First thing i did was went all the way to Bishan. I wanted to sit at Coffee Bean to spend some time writing my Mission Statement (more on that later), but to my dismay, it was jam packed and there werent any seats. Thinking that ive gone all the way there, i decided to buy a slice of cheescake from Secret Recipe (hmm.. YUM!) and then head to Yishun, Northpoint, Starbucks.

It wasnt really crowded there. But to my surprise, while waiting for the train in Bishan station, i came across Miss Diong our proteomics lecturer! Of all people she stumbled upon me. She told me that she was having lunch at junction 8 and wanted to take a break from all the marking of the exam scripts. I asked her in the train (she was heading back to school) about our overall general results for that module. She said we did quite good. Generally good to be more accurate. But i dared not press her on regarding our results. On wednesday, they will have a meeting, and the results will be posted quite soon, if i remember correctly, next week or the week after latest.

So she got off, and i head to Yishun. I met another person, an old schoolmate of mine. Shes 2 years younger than me and now she is at TP, in some engineering course. I wasnt close to her, but the fact that she is one of my friend’s friend, we chatted for a while in starbucks. I asked her quite a number of things regarding my secondary school and thier current state. The teachers who are still present in that school and the overall standard of it as well. the picture is grim i must say, but thank god im no longer in that school. I missed that place a lot but oh well…

So she left and im left alone. Time to write my mission statement. It took me about an hour worth of some thinking before i write down 15 important points that i must follow in order to guide me through this process. I used this book, in which i have read several times and this is the only book that i have ever read that changed my life at one point in my secondary school life. I owe alot of this book.

What is a Mission Statement?

A personal Mission Statement is like a personal credo or motto that states what your life is about. It can be long or short, in all types of variety.

A personal Mission Statement is like a tree with deep roots, stable and not going anywhere, but it is also alive and continually growing. It helps you to open your eyes to what is really important to you and help you to make decisions accordingly.

Mission Statement 2006

1. Respect yourself first, then your family, then your friends.

2. Believe in karma, what you give is what you get in return.

3. Strive each day to reach interdependence

4. Seek first to understand, then be understood

5. See other’s differences as a great advantage

6. Be open minded

7. Be principle centered

8. Be a prioritizer

9. Be proactive

10. Reach out, go the extra mile

11. Never let you fears make your decisions

12. Be yourself for you are a “grape”

13. Don’t worry, be happy

14. Be confident, “Jas” do it

15. Be grateful

So these are my 15 personal mission statements that i shall carry on while on my trip for my industrial attachment. I hope these statements would guide me through and help me to make this journey a fantastic one.
