Split Fiction is a blast

Swedish game development company has another video game hit in their hands. Their newly released title, Split Fiction is a blast to play. I had an opportunity to play with a friend who recently bought his own gaming PC and we had a ton of laughter playing the first two hours of the game, ending at the part where we both became sausages on a grill. Yes, you heard that right, Split Fiction is a 2-player co-op game where we play as either Mio Hudson or Zoe Foster in escaping from a simulator that they accidentally entered as one, traversing various game worlds right out of their own imaginations.

From Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction follows a similar vein of 2-player co-op much like their previous game, It Takes Two. Released in March 2025, it follows two protagonists I mentioned earlier, Mio and Zoe, who become trapped inside the worlds of their own stories after being connected to a machine designed to steal creative ideas.

While I am still early in the game, I have an impression that the journey will be even wilder that It Takes Two. I think the developer has taken been hard at work incorporating interesting game mechanics and puzzle solving involving two players, while at the same time, crafting a riveting narrative within those game mechanics.

This game, and the one before is worth every dollar spent. Since launch, Split Fiction has sold over 4 million copies, making it a major success for Hazelight and EA. A film adaptation is already in development, with Sydney Sweeney set to star and produce.

The best part is that you can share the game with your friend, meaning only one person needs to pay for the game, for your friend to enjoy it. He or she only need to download the Friend Pass version of the game. All he or she needs to do is to get invited into the matchmaking server from within the game’s menu to start playing together. Alternatively, for console players, you can play as a split-screen co-op together at home on the living room couch.

I can wait for discover what is in store of us while we progress further into the game.
