I am not terribly proud to say, but after my first foray into AFK Journey, a mobile gacha game, I became obsessed with the whole genre of Gacha games. So for the past half a year or so, I tried and tested a lot of Gacha games outdoor, be it on PC or on mobile.

AFK Journey is still the only Gacha game that I go back to from time to time, and being a mobile game, I am able to log in almost everyday and play a little bit on my phone during my daily commute to work and back home. I am still quite active in the game and have amassed quite a fair bit of characters that I have pulled through the gacha system, using the resources that I mainly collected during my gameplay. Of course, I did spend some money on the game, primarily as a way to show my support, but I think over the months I have been playing, I have spend quite a fair bit, more than what I initially anticipated, on top of the usual monthly packs that I regularly subscribe to. I am by no means a huge spender, definitely not whale territory, but enough to break into the ranking system of PVE and PVP modes within the game.
So going back to the games I tried over the last several months, expanding my horizons and testing out the waters to see the state of gacha games in general, I am not addicted to playing games from Hoyoverse, mainly Honkai Star Rail and more recently, Zenless Zone Zero.

Never in my life would I imagine myself playing a mobile gacha game. Before I played Honkai and ZZZ, I have heard of the game before but never tried it. Now, I am on the deep end. Spending real money to pull for my favourite characters whenever their character banner is up. Honkai Star Rail in particular, I think I have spent more money than I ever did on AFK Journey, in half as much time I have spent playing.
Honkai Star Rail is one of the most popular gacha games out there right now, with monthly revenues in the tens of millions of dollars. And this is just one of Hoyoverse’s games. They are also developers of the super popular game, Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero. Taking these games into consideration, the combined revenue from these games, can sometimes exceed USD100 million per month, making Hoyoverse one of the most successful game developers out there.
So I am now active in 3 gacha games, AFK Journey, Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.
